Thank U: One Community, One U

What:

As a part of Homecoming, Thank U is a philanthropic event intended to thank the University of Minnesota surrounding campus community. Volunteers participate in unique service projects that are designed by community members. Projects from last year included making rain barrels, removing graffiti, picking up litter on streets, landscaping, cleaning up the Soap Factory and much more!

When:

Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 11:30am to 4pm

Check-in and registration will take place on Northrop Plaza starting at 11:30am the day of the event. Volunteers will be provided with a light lunch with live musical entertainment. Afterwards, volunteers will travel to different sites around campus and the surrounding neighborhoods to perform various service projects.

Why:

Thank U is a unique day of service that allows YOU the chance to work united under the mission of giving back and promoting “One Community, One U.” Volunteers participate in projects designed by members of the surrounding area. Local businesses, neighborhood associations, non-profit organizations, and community residents provide service projects for Thank U.

Musical Entertainment

As part of participating in Thank U, a live musical performance will occur at the beginning of the event.

Do you have a group of students, staff, faculty, alumni, or members from the general public interested in participating in Thank U as a team? Register here to create your team and start the process of giving back.

Attention: Team Captains will need to have their group roster, including names and email addresses, prior to registration. Please download the excel file to enter in your roster information. You will then upload the completed file on the registration form page.

Volunteer your time and say THANK U to the University of Minnesota's campus community for all they do. Any student, alumni, faculty, staff, or community member can volunteer alongside one another as part of a group.

Individual Registration 2013

All students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to join the Thank U event by registering as an indivdiaul. All participants who are not registered as part of a team will be placed with other registrants.

FAQ's

When does registration close?

Pre-registration closes on September 19, 2013 at 4:30pm. If you are unable to register online, there is day- of registration at Northrop Plaza beginning at 11:30am on September 22.

Is there a fee to participate?

There is no fee to participate in this event. Thank U is a free event whose only purpose is to create “One Community, One U.”

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty, as some projects could involve working outdoors. Participants are encouraged to dress in layers and for the weather.

Do I have to be affiliated to the University in any way to participate?

There are no restrictions to participate in Thank U. Everyone and anyone is welcome!

Will snacks or food be provided?

A light lunch will be served before volunteering begins. Snacks will NOT be provided during the time when volunteers will be working on their assigned project. However, please feel free to bring your own snacks. Also, bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated is highly encouraged.

Can I choose what type of project I participate in?

In most instances, participants will not be able to choose a specific project to participate in. However, participants will have the option while registering to select a preference of outdoor or indoor projects and level of activity. There is also a space to provide information about any special accommodations needed for participation.

Will I need to provide transportation for myself to my project site?

Most projects are within walking distance of Northrop Plaza and do not require transportation. If the project does require it, transportation will be provided.

What happens if it rains or there is bad weather?

In the event of inclement weather that prohibits Thank U to happen as planned, all registered participants will be emailed with information.

Can my child/spouse/friend participate in Thank U with me?

Yes! Projects are appropriate for all age groups to participate in together. If you are registering a child, a parent or guardian must co-sign the Volunteer Agreement and Release on the day of the event.

Will I receive a reminder for the event?

Reminder emails will be sent out to the email address that was used to register the participant. Emails will be sent out leading up to the event and the day-of.
